Domestic Waste Disposal

Weekly general rubbish collections are provided by Council in most areas. On your collection day, please ensure your bins are placed on the kerb by 6am. Face the lid openings to the road, no more than a metre from the kerb edge and at least on metre apart when there is more than one bin.

Large domestic items, commercial, industrial and hazardous waste should not be put in the domestic bins. These items must be disposed of at an appropriate Council waste disposal facility.

Banana Shire currently does not offer a kerbside recycling service. Residents are encouraged to recycle at their local transfer station or landfill.

Council encourages separation of greenwaste materials, such as branches and garden clippings, so that they can be stockpiled ready for mulching.

The more clean rubbish free waste we receive at the landfill, the more mulch that can be produced. Council offers the mulch to residents free of charge however if you require delivery there will be a cost involved.

Visit the Biloela Transfer Station for your free load of mulch today!

Wheelie Bins

Change of Wheelie Bin allocation or service: In order to make any changes to your bin service, either to receive more or less collections per week, or to inform council you will be receiving an alternative waste collection service, the ratepayer of the property must complete an Application for amended Wheelie Bin Service form.

For those properties on the garbage routes that wish to commence a wheelie bin service outside the normal collection area, the ratepayer of the property must complete an agreement form.

New Residences: Council provides a free bin to new residences upon passing the final inspection, and the Final Inspection Certificate is registered by the Building Section. Residents are required to complete an Application for New Wheelie Bin Service form. Residents may elect to have the bin delivered or picked up from the local Council depot.

Residents are urged to communicate with their builders, whether using the services of the Council Building Inspector, or a Private Building Certifier, to ensure the appropriate Building Application has been lodged.

Residents using the services of a Private Building Certifier are urged to make sure the Final Certificate is sent to the Council Building Section.
