Japanese Encephalitis Vaccinations Available Locally

Banana Shire residents are encouraged to protect themselves against Japanese Encephalitis (JE) — a rare but potentially serious disease spread by mosquitoes.
Free JE vaccinations are available at several local health centres for eligible individuals.

JE virus is spread by mosquitoes and more common in rural and regional areas. Vaccination is especially important for those working with animals, outdoors, or living near wetlands or piggeries.
