Licences & Registration
Council licenses a number of activities that have the potential to cause harm to human health or safety, harm to the environment, or nuisance.
These activities include:
In order to display retail goods or advertising signs on the footpath in front of a business premises, the business owner must hold a permit(PDF, 119KB) from Council. Standard permit conditions include:
- Goods are only to be displayed during business hours
- A 2m wide clearway for pedestrians must be maintained at any time
- The permit holder must hold public liability insurance of not less than $20 million.
- Display the sticker provided on each of the goods/signs
- Permit holder must indemnify the Council and State Government (if applicable) against any damages
A small annual fee applies to this permit.
Persons wishing to undertake any of the following activities on a footpath are required to hold a permit(PDF, 104KB) with Council:
- street stalls
- ticket sales
- collection of donations
- sausage sizzles
- distributing or exhibiting advertising material
- busking, playing a musical instrument or singing
- using a loud speaker or amplifying device
- displays or information booths
Standard permit conditions include:
- The stall must not create any hindrance to pedestrians
- Noise is to be kept at a reasonable level
- Amplified music is not permitted
- The permit must be on display at all times
- Permit holder must hold public liability insurance of not less than $20 million
- Permit holder must indemnify the Council and State Government (if applicable) against any damages
There are no fees associated wtih this permit for non-profit organsations, however a small fee applies to commercial operations.
