Australia Day 2026 – Venue Change for Taroom

Banana Shire Council invites the community to join us in celebrating Australia Day 2026 in Taroom. This year’s event will include the Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony and the presentation of the 2026 Australia Day Awards, recognising outstanding individuals and groups who contribute to the strength and spirit of our Shire.

Important Venue Update
Due to ongoing wet weather and recent rainfall, the event has been relocated from the Dawson River Precinct to the Taroom Town Hall. This change ensures the comfort and safety of attendees, participants, and staff while still allowing our community to come together for this significant occasion.

Ludwig Leichhardt Park, Yaldwyn Street, Taroom (Post‑ceremony celebrations)
Our 2026 Australia Day Award recipients will be announced during the Official Ceremony.
Following the ceremony, free family entertainment will be held at Ludwig Leichhardt Park. Everyone is welcome to join in and enjoy the celebrations.

8:00am – Welcome & Morning Activities
Taroom Town Hall
• Free sausage sizzle / morning tea
• Live entertainment commences

9:00am – Official Ceremony

• 2026 Banana Shire Australia Day Awards & Citizenship Ceremony

10:00am – Food and Refreshments Continue
Ludwig Leichhardt Park
• Free family entertainment, including:
– Mega Slide
– Water Slide
– Bouncing Bunny

10:00am – 12:00pm – Heritage Discovery
Taroom Museum
• Historical and cultural experience
• Free entry and morning tea

11:30am – Lunch and Live Entertainment
Leichhardt Hotel

1:00pm – Afternoon Entertainment
• Yabby Races – Leichhardt Hotel
• Afternoon bowls – Taroom Bowls Club
