Banana Shire Council CEO Tom Upton

Banana Shire Council advises that Chief Executive Officer Tom Upton has accepted an appointment as CEO of Livingstone Shire Council, with his final day at Banana Shire Council to be prior to commencing his new role on 29 June 2026.
Mr Upton has led Banana Shire Council for more than seven years, providing stable and consistent leadership during his tenure.
Mayor Nev Ferrier acknowledged Mr Upton’s significant contribution to the organisation and community.
“Tom has provided strong and steady leadership for Banana Shire Council and our community over the past seven and a half years,” Mayor Ferrier said.
“During his time with Council, he has helped guide the organisation through challenges, while maintaining a clear focus on governance, financial sustainability and delivering for our communities.
“On behalf of Council, I thank Tom for his commitment and professionalism, and wish him and his family all the very best in this next chapter.”
Mr Upton said it had been a privilege to serve Banana Shire.
“It has been an honour to work alongside Mayor Ferrier, councillors and our dedicated staff, and to support the Banana Shire community,” he said.
“I am proud of what has been achieved during my time here and grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the region.
I would also like to sincerely thank staff and residents across the Shire for the goodwill and support they have shown me throughout my tenure at Banana Shire.”
Council will commence recruitment for the Chief Executive Officer position in due course and will put arrangements in place to ensure a smooth leadership transition.
