On 28th August 2025, Banana Shire Council resolved to cease the fluoridation of water at the Biloela and Moura water treatment facilities. This decision impacts Moura and Banana, Biloela and Thangool town water supply users and communities.
Fluoridation at Moura and Biloela has not been undertaken for several years due to operational complexities associated with operating and maintaining fluoridation systems and ensuring regulatory compliance with limited staffing resources.
This notice formally advises that as of Sunday 20th November 2025, Banana Shire Council will no longer fluoridate drinking water supplied to any of its communities and will proceed with decommissioning of all water fluoridation infrastructure.
