Recent flooding across Banana Shire means increased mosquito activity.

What is Council doing?
Council is treating known mosquito breeding areas throughout Shire townships to help reduce mosquito numbers.

What can you do at home?

You can help limit mosquito breeding by:
• Removing items that collect water
• Emptying water‑holding containers regularly
• Filling pot plant bases with sand
• Cleaning pools, birdbaths and gutters
• Ensuring rainwater tanks are fully screened

Protect yourself and your family
• Use insect repellent
• Wear long, loose-fitting clothing
• Avoid being outdoors at dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active

Why does it matter?
Some mosquitoes can carry diseases such as Ross River Virus, Barmah Forest Virus and Japanese Encephalitis Virus (JEV).
