Dog running in park

Moura Off-leash dog park

Work to establish an off-leash dog park in Moura will commence in February 2021.
The park will be located in a section of the disused rail yard between Gillespie St and Theodore Moura Road.
Late last year Banana Shire Council asked the community to select their preferred location for the park from two shortlisted options.

  • Option A – The SES complex on the eastern entrance to town
  • Option B – The old rail yard at the southern edge of town.

Of the 118 respondents who participated in the engagement survey 63.56% favoured Option B.
During the engagement many respondents voiced their concern over Option B being located too close to the Moura State School.
As a result of this feedback Council has moved the site north-east within the rail yard, closer to the CBD and away from the school.
The Moura off-leash park will be completely enclosed by a chain link fence and will include shade, bins and watering points.

Trampoline

Melton Park Playground Redevelopment

Mini trampolines, drums and other sensory equipment will be included as part of Stage 2 of the redevelopment of the playground in Melton Park.
The equipment will be installed in the park later this year, replacing the maze which had to be demolished after being constantly damaged by vandals.
Over the past month Banana Shire residents were invited to participate in a community engagement survey to select what play equipment they would like installed in the park.
The engagement closed on Friday 8 January 2021.
Residents were asked to select from two shortlisted options which were carefully chosen to provide the most relevant and cost effective choices.
Of the 247 respondents who participated in the engagement survey 153 (61.94%) favoured Option A.
