Initiation | Brenden Kocsis
FRI 30 JAN 2026 – FRI 27 MAR 2026
Initiation brings together a series of collage, mixed-media, and sculptural works by artist and poet Brenden Kocsis. Kocsis’ practice is influenced by philosophy, esoteric traditions and the artist’s own personal history. Each narrative-driven work uses symbolism to pose philosophical questions about the ephemeral and cyclical nature of life.
Initiation features works that combine classical imagery with pressed native flowers, donated feathers, and ‘permanently borrowed’ plant matter from around Biloela. When paired with esoteric iconography and a philosophic lens, these everyday, mundane items are transformed into symbolic, enduring gestures.
Brenden Kocsis currently lives in Biloela and works at Biloela State High School in the English, Arts, and Humanities departments. His work has been published in art and literary journals in England, Germany, and the United States.
We’ve left a helluva Lot behind. 2025. Sculpture (wood, paint, cardboard, salt, and acrylic) – 4cm x 20cm x 10cm
