The Spark Within

The Spark Within - Auda Maclean

Dawson River Artists & Simon the Potter

8 AUG 2025 - 20 SEP 2025

The Spark Within exhibition brings together works by the Dawson River Artists and Simon the Potter, showcasing the creativity sparked by the landscapes and community of Baralaba and its surrounds. Each artist has explored subjects that ignite inspiration, whether drawn from the natural environment or the shared experience of making art together.

Meeting weekly in Baralaba, the multigenerational group has built a strong creative network, connecting artists who are often geographically isolated. Over time, they’ve become a cornerstone of the arts in the Banana Shire, being recognised particularly for their pastel drawings that capture the region’s distinctive light.

With fifteen artists represented, The Spark Within features a diverse range of mediums. These include the signature pastel landscapes, vibrant acrylic paintings, technically refined ceramic pieces, textiles, and experimental projection art. The exhibition celebrates how personal moments of inspiration can be multiplied when shared within a creative community.
