Community Resource Centre Extension

Community Resource Centre Extension

Published: 12th March 2021

The extension of the Community Resource Centre (CRC) was officially opened this week (Wednesday, 10 March 2021).

Mayor Nev Ferrier said that the project reflects Council’s commitment to improve the quality of life for our communities through the delivery of efficient, effective and sustainable services and facilities.

“The demand for therapy services and resources has reached a point where the CRC needed to expand its space and workforce to meet community needs,” he said.

“We are fortunate that those elected representatives who came before us had the foresight and backbone to support this unique facility and this Council is unwavering in its resolve to ensure the Centre continues to be successful.”

The Community Resource Centre extension is designed to:

  • increase and improve storage space for educational resources and specialised equipment
  • provide additional space to deliver therapy programs to meet community needs
  • enhance the flow of people and resources through the building
  • reconfigure the existing workspace to improve the work environment, efficiency and security

The CRC was originally developed as a community-driven and funded project. It was gifted to Banana Shire Council in 2003. Council is now responsible for operational costs.

Programs and projects are funded by State Government grants and community donations. More recently, the CRC introduced fee for service and is a registered NDIS provider.
