Works for Queensland Funding Boost for Banana Shire

A total of 19 infrastructure projects totalling $1,390,000 have been undertaken by Banana Shire Council through the Works for Queensland W4Q funding program over the 2020/21 period. The initiative is part of a $1 billion investment by the Queensland Government to deliver vital infrastructure projects throughout regional Queensland.

A state of the art sound and lighting system at Biloela Civic Centre, new animal management facilities, security upgrades and new playgrounds are just some of the projects that have been undertaken under the State Government Works for Queensland funding program.

The Mayor of Banana Shire Council, Cr Nev Ferrier said, “The Banana Shire Council thanks the Queensland Government for their funding support through the Works for Queensland program, without it, these essential infrastructure upgrades and community projects would not have happened.”

The list below outlines all of the projects that have been undertaken by the Banana Shire Council that will improve liveability for residents through this funding program.

The works included the following projects:

Thangool Airport Entry Lighting $30,000

  • Installation of new lighting at the entry of Thangool Aerodrome to improve safety

Biloela Civic Centre Sound and Lighting Upgrade $100,000

  • Upgrade to the Sound and Lighting System. The new system includes a 50,000 watt sound system, a remote camera which will provide vision of the main stage into all public areas of the hall, mobile 100inch TV for use in each area and the replacement of stage lighting.

Footpath Upgrade in Theodore $40,000

  • Installation of 200-300 metres of footpath at Theodore

Footpath Upgrade in Thangool  $30,000

  • Replace 150m to 200m of footpath at Thangool

Biloela Melton Park Playground $180,000

  • Replacement of damaged playground equipment

Baralaba Riverbank Stabilisation Stage 3 $40,000

  • Installation of wall to protect riverbank from erosion including capping and fencing of the wall and installation of turf and irrigation

Water Bore Project - $60,000

  • Installation of a water bore, pump, storage tanks and a generator to provide water for roadworks.

Disabled Car Park - $20,000

  • Installation of disability carpark and astro turf on Kariobe Street Biloela in front of shopping centre.

Moura Lions Park - $50,000

  • Purchase and installation of new playground equipment

CCTV Cameras at landfills and Waste Transfer Station - $200,000

  • Installation of CCTV Cameras with power upgrades where required and data transmission devices to access CCTV footage from Biloela.

Baralaba Community Day Care Playground - $60,000

  • Replace Playground Equipment (Stage 1)

New Pound Facility – Biloela - $200,000

  • Construction of a new Animal Management facility at Biloela

Glebe Weir Amenities Block - $170,000

  • The construction of a disability compliant amenities with showers and toilets, installation of two new secondary treated waste water systems for both amenities.

Taroom Showgrounds Hall - $10,000

  • Security Improvements including installation of swipe card access and security cameras in hall for gym access.

Moura Leash Free Dog Park - $60,000

  • Provision of a fenced leash free dog park and new seating area with shade shelter.

Baralaba RSL Hall - $100,000

  • The installation of new public amenities

Banana Sutherland Hall - $10,000

  • Installation of fans and improved lighting

Biloela Showgrounds - $15,000

  • Construction of a shade structure at the main entrance to the Biloela Showgrounds

Magavalis Sports Complex Bore Water Project -$15,000

  • Installation of a roof over new bore and pump, trenching and pipes to provide water to sporting groups
