Banana Shire Council holds Capability Building Workshop for local Business

Published: 5th December 2022

On Tuesday 29th November, the Banana Shire Council (BSC) held its first Capability Building Workshop in Biloela. The workshop was conducted to help local businesses and organisations better understand what renewable energy projects are coming up in the Banana Shire and what requirements would be needed to tender for contracts.

Over 70 people attended the workshop, with representatives from local suppliers, major industry, energy projects, local and state Government, and exhibitors who provide business support.  Mayor of Banana Shire Council Nev Ferrier says Council is being proactive in helping local businesses grow during this period of change. “Council is doing everything in its power to assist local businesses to benefit from the renewable energy projects coming to the Shire. Not only do we want our businesses to prosper, we want the renewable energy industry to leave a positive leagacy for future generations in our communities, he added.

The recently released Queensland Government Energy and Jobs Plan has triggered an enormous surge in renewable energy companies committing to renewable projects across the Shire. The inaugural Capability Building Workshop workshop connected local suppliers with existing and new energy industries, helped commence early conversations and identify future opportunities.

The workshop was facilitated by leading Project Management and Business professional, Dave Grenfell OAM.  Other speakers included a presentation by Banana Shire Council on the proposed pipeline of renewable energy projects and Batchfire Resources presented on procurement processes.

The Capabilities Workshop provided attendees with valuable skills for upcoming tendering opportunities and also a forum to network with new and existing industry players. For more info head BSC website www.banana.qld.gov.au for further updates and information or contact enquiries@banana.qld.gov.au
