Enhanced Security Measures Implemented at Public Amenities in Moura and Biloela

Published: 12th March 2024

Banana Shire Council has installed timed automatic locking doors at public amenities in Moura and Biloela. These new security measures aim to combat vandalism and enhance safety for residents and visitors.

The timed automatic locking doors will be operational daily, locking at 8:00 PM and reopening at 5:00 AM the following day. This additional security measure is in response to increased incidents of vandalism in the area, which have incurred significant costs to ratepayers.

Mayor Nev Ferrier said, "The installation of these automatic locking doors is a necessary step to address the ongoing vandalism issues we've been experiencing in our public amenities and parks. The financial burden placed on ratepayers due to these incidents exceeds over $100,000 annually."

The doors are operated by timed locks. They are designed to ensure that individuals cannot become locked inside, as the doors will always open from the inside. Additionally, a designated contact number will be prominently displayed both inside and outside the amenities. In the event of any difficulties with the door, residents can call this number for immediate assistance from Council.

"We believe that these new security measures will act as a deterrent against further vandalism and contribute to the creation of a safer environment for our community," Mayor Nev Ferrier added.
