Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra Queensland Tour comes to Banana Shire

Published: 2nd April 2024

On Thursday 6th and Friday June 7th, Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra will be visiting Theodore and Biloela as part of their Queensland Tour, spreading the joy of music to regional Queensland communities.

Camerata is set to engage audiences of all ages with a series of community activities ranging from kindergarten performances to visits with senior citizens, before culminating in evening performances in each town.

Mayor Nev Ferrier said, “We are excited to host Queensland Chamber Orchestra in Banana Shire. It’s not often that our residents get to experience something like this without travelling for hours. Having it in our own backyard is a real privilege.”

Camerata in Concert will feature a 15-piece orchestra and a program with works by the Italian Baroque violin virtuoso Locatelli, Dvorak's radiant Serenade for Strings, and more, including a brand new composition by Camerata's 2024 Emerging Composer-in-Residence, Alexandra Mison. Camerata will also be joined for some encores by local performers and community musicians.

Camerata’s Artistic Director and leader, Brendan Joyce says:

“Every tour in Queensland is an exciting moment for us because so often we are meeting new people and places for the first time, but this tour is even better in that we are going to new places such as Monto, but visiting old friends in Biloela and Bundaberg.

Camerata delights in their annual regional tour, a highlight of Camerata’s program, where there are many opportunities for connection and enriching communities across Queensland through music. Camerata’s talented musicians perform for the local community, run strings workshops with schools and local musicians, perform specialised programs for kindergarten children, and present a concert program for aged care and respite care residents.

This tour is made possible with the generous support of the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland and Banana Shire Council.
