Why Get Ready?
Queensland weather can change fast — and in Banana Shire, we know how quickly storms, floods, and bushfires can impact our lives. Being prepared means recovering faster and staying safer when disaster strikes.
This week is all about:
- Encouraging locals to prepare early
- Building stronger, more resilient communities
- Sharing simple, practical tips to help you Get Ready
3 Steps to Get Ready in Banana Shire
1. Understand Your Risk
Every town and property is different. Know how extreme weather could affect your home, work, travel, and community.
2. Have a Plan
Create a household emergency plan. Make sure everyone knows what to do, where to go, and who to contact.
3. Pack a Kit
Stock up on essentials so you’re not caught out. This year, think about packing:
• Long-life food and toiletries
• Drinking water (at least 3 days’ worth)
• Batteries, torch, and a radio
• Essential medications and prescriptions
